A Study of the Educational Adjustment of Students Studying at the Secondary Level

Abstract

Education is a continuous process of the intellectual, emotional, social, moral, and physical development of an individual, whereas educational adjustment refers to the ability of students to effectively adapt to the school environment, curriculum, teachers, classmates, academic tasks, examinations, and   other   educational   situations.   The secondary level is a very important stage for students because during this period, physical, mental, emotional, and social changes associated with adolescence occur rapidly, while educational expectations and examination-related pressure also increase. Therefore, proper educational adjustment is essential for students' learning, participation in school activities, achievement, and overall development. The need for the present study was felt because students differ considerably in their educational background, family circumstances, social and economic conditions, study habits, interests, and individual characteristics. A review of related literature also indicates that educational adjustment may be associated with achievement, achievement motivation, life skills, study habits, cognitive abilities, and various demographic factors. In the present study, 400 secondary-level students from Lucknow District were included as the sample, and the simple random sampling method was used. The study examined the educational adjustment of students on two major bases, namely gender and locality. Overall, the study concluded that gender may be an important basis associated with the educational adjustment of students, whereas no significant difference was found on the basis ofPlocality.
