Abstract

Proper hydration is very important regarding the health and cognitive abilities of the children, especially at the primary school. This paper will survey water intake in terms of primary school students and concentrate on the discrepancies in water intake, the effects of dehydration on school performance, and roles played by physical activity and school programs. The main aim was to measure the methods of hydration and the prerogative of the efficacy of available ecological and environmental studies in marketing water consumption. This conclusion shows that there is a major difference in hydration practices with a high number of students not achieving the recommended daily intake rate hence experiencing subclinical instances of dehydration which impacts on the thinking process, concentration, and academic performance. Even though physical activity raises the levels of hydration, its practice is not always followed by the appropriate level of water intake, which affects the student performance and recovery. The review of the curriculum demonstrates a poor coverage of water education, which is more common in life sciences and suggests an interdisciplinary and more comprehensive solution to the issue, ensuring that the approach toward achieving sustainable hydration behaviors is more coherent. This paper is proposing the integration of hydration education into school’s curriculum to increase young learners to develop healthier water consumption behaviors.
