Strengthening the Economic Circuit in the Food Axis: Challenges and Opportunities for the Popular and Solidarity Economy in Chimborazo

Abstract

The Economic Circuit Eje Alimentos and its Impact on the Popular and Solidarity Economy in the Canton of Riobamba, Province of Chimborazo addresses the impact of the popular and solidarity economy on the production and marketing of vegetables, dairy products and quinoa. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, a situational diagnosis was made through surveys and interviews, reaching a sample of 257 producers.
The results indicate that the implementation of the popular economy has improved the productivity, quality of life and income of this group, highlighting a 60.3% female participation in the sector. Despite the advances, challenges in commercialization still persist due to intermediaries and the need for technical training. The conclusions suggest that, through technical advice, training and financing, more favorable conditions have been generated for producers, promoting their inclusion in the market. It is recommended to work on improving the quality of products and strengthening alliances between the productive sectors to optimize production, marketing and access to financing, thus boosting the local economy and contributing to the eradication of poverty in the region.
