The Role and Impact of Family Medicine Clinics on Community Vaccination Coverage and Epidemiological Outcomes: A Global Systematic Review

Abstract
Background: The significance of family medicine clinics in the delivery of vaccinations is because they serve as primary care centers. Nevertheless, their role in the world in enhancing community coverage and alleviating the burden of disease is not clearly known. This systematic review summarizes the studies on the effect of these clinics on vaccination rates in the light of barriers like reluctance and access inequality.
Methods: We reviewed 15 studies (including those in 2021-2022), which included surveillance reports, systematic reviews of hesitancy, and trials of interventions, and have focused on the role of primary care in the U.S., Europe, and Israel, and others. Results: Higher population density of primary care providers was linked with higher rates of COVID-19 vaccination of U.S. children (ages 511) and increased uptake of routine vaccines in adults. The global prevalence of provider uncertainty was 24.3% with reduced referrals; family physician endorsement reduced HPV hesitancy by building trust. Clinics were also important because access controls in poor European neighborhoods demonstrated the importance of equity, and nudges (e.g., texts) resulted in a 2.9-8.6% attendance boost at appointments. Conclusions: Family medicine clinics increase coverage by making it easier to get care and giving advice, however there are still shortages in low-income areas and for vaccines other than COVID. Implications encompass the enhancement of clinic-based strategies to promote herd immunity. This review emphasizes the necessity for global epidemiological outcome research.
