Pre-University Measures’ Predictability for Cumulative GPA of Preservice Teachers of Students with Learning Disabilities
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between the following predictors: General Aptitude Test (GAT), Standardized Achievement Admission Test (SAAT), gender, and the Cumulative Grade-Point Average (CGPA) of preservice teachers of students with learning disabilities (LD). The participants comprised 2346 preservice teachers of students with LD, who obtained their degrees between 2007 and 2023. Three simple regression analyses and a multiple regression analysis were conducted to examine the correlation between the predictors: GAT, gender, SAAT and CGPA. When the correlations between the predictors and CGPA were investigated individually, SAAT was the strongest predictor (R2 = 0.178), explaining 17.8 of the variance in CGPA. However, in the combined model (GAT, gender, and SAAT), there was a significantly moderate correlation (R = 0.465) between the combination of predictors and the CGPA of preservice teachers of students with LD, and the R² value of 0.216 implied that approximately 21.6% of the variance in CGPA was explained by the model. Future policy, research, and practice implications and suggestions are put forth and examined.
