Compendium on Financial Planning for Retirement: A Bibliometric Review

Abstract

Financial Planning for Retirement (FPR) has become a paramount field of study. The current research analyses the intellectual and conceptual framework of the FPR literature in a systematic manner using a bibliometric approach. The Scopus database was searched and retrieved 2,683 peer-reviewed articles, which were analysed in Biblioshiny (R Studio) and VOSviewer. The results show a substantial increase in the research output, especially recently, which points to the rising academic interest in the subject. Empirical research has mainly concentrated on demographic and psychological factors of retirement planning, whereas theoretically, the formulation of sophisticated behavioural and conceptual frameworks was focused. The analysis also reveals key thematic groups and the importance of financial literacy in retirement planning. The results offer implications to the researchers, policymakers, and a blueprint for future study of the emerging field of retirement financial planning.
