Abstract

The rapid expansion of social media platforms has significantly transformed contemporary literary expression and audience engagement within digital literary communities. This study examined the influence of social media on literary participation, reader interaction, and digital literary visibility using Goodreads and social-media engagement datasets. A mixed-method research design was employed, integrating quantitative statistical analysis with qualitative interpretation of digital literary engagement patterns. The study analyzed 540 records consisting of books and scholarly articles collected from publicly available secondary datasets. Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis were conducted to examine relationships between publication year and audience engagement metrics. The findings revealed substantial growth in digital literary and social-media-related records in recent years, particularly within online reading communities such as Goodreads. Correlation and regression results demonstrated statistically significant relationships between publication year and audience engagement patterns, indicating the increasing role of digital platforms in shaping literary visibility and reader participation. The study further found that engagement indicators such as ratings, reviews, comments, and online interactions significantly influence literary popularity within participatory digital environments. Overall, the findings demonstrate that social media has transformed literary communication by promoting democratized participation, reader-centered interaction, and digitally mediated literary culture. The study contributes to digital humanities and literary communication research by providing empirical evidence regarding the evolving relationship between social media and contemporary literary engagement.
