Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Public Relations (PR) has come to be known as an important aspect of strategic management that allows organizations to build credibility, develop stakeholder relationships, and increase organizational performance in the long run. The significance of PR for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) is especially noteworthy in terms of establishing contact with customers, employees, investors, suppliers, and local community while growing the business in competitive environments. Objective: The objective of this research is to investigate the role of public relations practices in managing SMEs by examining their impact on organizational reputation, stakeholder relations, customer trust, crisis communications, and sustainable development of the businesses. Moreover, increasing role of digital communication technologies in current SME PR practices will be considered. Methods: A comprehensive narrative literature review was carried out based on peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and credible industry reports from 2015 until 2025. Selected literature on strategic communication, corporate reputation management, media relations, digital PR, social media, internal communication, and crisis management of SMEs has been critically reviewed to identify common themes, challenges, and best practices. Results: It is clear from the findings that SMEs that adopt well-structured public relations techniques enjoy positive stakeholder relations, increased brand recognition, increased customer loyalty and increased organizational flexibility. The increased use of digital communication has led to more opportunities for cost-effective stakeholder engagement and reputation management. However, several SMEs continue facing challenges such as lack of financial resources, inadequate communication skills, poor strategic planning and lack of evaluation techniques. The incorporation of public relations into organizational decision making and linking of communications to business goals makes managers more effective and flexible. Conclusion: Public relations have become a strategic function that ensures sustainable management of SMEs rather than being just a tool of marketing. SMEs that embrace proactive, evidence-based and digitized public relations strategies will be in a good position to improve stakeholder trust, gain competitive advantage and promote sustainable organizational development.
