Effective Teaching and Education for Undergraduate Students in Assam and Northeast India: A Review
Main Article Content
Abstract
The quality of undergraduate education in Assam and Northeast India faces distinctive challenges stemming from infrastructural limitations, socio-economic disparities, and policy implementation hurdles. Despite various government initiatives, the region struggles with issues such as inadequate facilities, limited digital access, and significant gender disparities in technical education. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for robust digital infrastructure, as online learning has become essential yet inaccessible for many students due to poor internet connectivity and insufficient digital training.
This review synthesizes the existing literature on educational conditions in Northeast India, focusing on factors that influence the effectiveness of teaching and education for undergraduate students. Key areas of analysis include the role of public-private partnerships (PPP) in enhancing educational infrastructure, the digital divide, and the implications of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The findings underscore the importance of holistic strategies that encompass infrastructure development, curriculum localization, digital literacy, and skill- based learning. Such strategies are essential to make education more inclusive, accessible, and relevant to the socio-economic needs of Assam and the Northeastern states. This review aims to provide a foundation for informed interventions that address both the immediate educational needs and long-term development goals of the region.
