Abstract

With the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are increasingly being explored as supports for teacher training in various pedagogies. This study investigates the effectiveness of ChatGPT in training teachers in the pedagogy of Outcome-Based Learning (OBL) based on Bloom’s Taxonomy in the cognitive domain.

An exploratory workshop was conducted with 19 primary and secondary school teachers from an SSC board school in Mumbai, India. The teacher trainer took the support of ChatGPT to help teacher-students understand the concepts of OBL and Blooms Taxonomy and how to generate OBL lesson plans with outcomes based on Cognitive Domain of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Teachers were also taught how to generate assessment tools such as quizzes and rubrics for the OBL lesson plans, with the help of ChatGPT.

Findings indicate that ChatGPT was highly effective in offering training support by generating examples, classroom activities, lesson plans, and assessment formats aligned with Bloom’s taxonomy. However, teachers required trainer intervention to understand theoretical concepts such as OBL, Bloom’s Taxonomy and rubrics. The study concludes that while ChatGPT can  play a significant supporting role in training teachers in pedagogy, the basic teacher-training will have to be lead by human trainers.
