Abstract

The swift advancement of digital technology requires teaching methods that enhance understanding of concepts and improve problem-solving abilities. This research investigated how WebQuest–Problem Based Learning (WebQuest-PBL) and students' motivation to learn impact their understanding of concepts and ability to solve problems in a Pancasila Education course. This quantitative quasi-experimental research employed a 2×2 factorial structure involving undergraduate Pancasila students at a public university located in East Java. The experimental group participated in learning via LMS-based WebQuest-PBL, whereas the control group underwent traditional PBL. Data concerning learning motivation, conceptual comprehension, and problem-solving abilities were examined utilizing Two-Way ANOVA. The results indicated that students instructed using the WebQuest-PBL approach demonstrated notably greater understanding of concepts and improved problem-solving abilities compared to those educated through conventional PBL methods. Students who are highly motivated to learn achieved better results than those with lower motivation. Furthermore, an interaction effect suggested that the WebQuest-PBL method was especially beneficial for students who possess a strong motivation to learn. The research finds WebQuest-PBL is a useful teaching method for enhancing understanding of concepts and problem-solving abilities in higher education, particularly when accompanied by strong motivation to learn. The combination of organized digital research and practical problem situations provides significant learning opportunities in Pancasila education.
