Abstract

The study explores the implementation and impact of game-based learning in Alternative Learning System (ALS) in teaching mathematics. Four key themes emerged from the findings. Firstly, ALS coordinators employed innovative teaching strategies by integrating game-based learning into their teaching methods. This approach aimed to enhance student motivation and understanding of mathematical concepts while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Secondly, the study highlighted the importance of incorporating effective measures of student performance within game-based activities. Thirdly, the results showed that game-based learning effectively improved students' performance skills in mathematics by enhancing problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and overall academic achievement. The findings also revealed the situational factors and struggles faced by ALS coordinators in implementing game-based learning, such as designing meaningful game mechanics and addressing technological constraints. These themes provide a comprehensive framework that promotes the successful implementation of game-based learning in ALS mathematics education leading to improved student performance skills in mathematics.
