Determination of Lecturer Performance in Private Universities in North Sumatera

Abstract

Lecturers, as servants and media in educating students, certainly face significant challenges. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence lecturer performance at private universities in North Sumatra. Another objective is to analyze the impact of organizational trust as a mediating variable on lecturer performance at private universities in North Sumatra. The research objects were lecturers at private universities in North Sumatra with a sample of 255 people selected by purposive sampling. Data were processed using descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS analysis. The results of the study found that participatory leadership style and job intention significantly influence organizational trust and lecturer performance at private universities in North Sumatra. Meanwhile, organizational trust did not significantly influence lecturer performance and has not been a mediating variable between participatory leadership style and job intention on lecturer performance at private universities in North Sumatra. The managerial implications that can be given are: to improve participatory leadership style, leaders must build communication and information transparency with lecturers by involving lecturers in every routine meeting, discussion forum or work group and decision-making related to work. To improve the job intention of lecturers, organizations must be able to encourage an inclusive and supportive work culture among fellow lecturers and management, increase promotion and recognition opportunities based on objective performance, and provide regular constructive feedback to help lecturers identify areas that need improvement.
