Abstract
We present the development and validation of a metaverse-based virtual laboratory designed to foster multiliteracy skills in primary education, with a novel integration of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila framework for character formation. The motivation for this work stems from a persistent gap between conventional literacy instruction and the multidimensional competencies demanded by contemporary digital society. To address this challenge, we adopt the ADDIE instructional design model as a structured methodology that transforms pedagogical requirements into a functional virtual environment. The process begins with an analysis phase that identifies specific learning needs derived from empirical data on student engagement and character metrics. We then construct a three-dimensional virtual space that hosts multimodal learning objects, where literacy tasks are embedded within spatial navigation rather than presented as linear media. A core novelty of our approach is the mathematical coupling of multiliteracy acquisition with character internalization: we define distinct virtual zones that correspond to the six dimensions of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila, ensuring that a learner’s trajectory through the environment inherently exposes them to character-building narratives. Technical realization employs a metaverse platform with real-time rendering and virtual reality compatibility. Domain experts subsequently evaluate the media usability through a formal validation process, and we apply iterative refinement based on expert feedback to optimize the interface parameters. The resulting system creates a closed-loop learning cycle: outputs from literacy modules feed directly into character reflection modules within the same spatial context. This work contributes a replicable framework for designing immersive educational environments that simultaneously address cognitive and affective learning objectives, thereby offering a significant advancement over traditional static content delivery methods in primary education..
