Abstract

This study investigates the performance of Hot Mix Asphalt prepared using Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) and Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) for the Bahadurganj–Araria section of NH-327E. The study includes selection and characterization of materials, sieve analysis, gradation design, Marshall specimen preparation, and performance evaluation of the modified asphalt mix. VG-30 bitumen, lime filler, and rejuvenator were used along with recycled constituents to develop a sustainable and workable mix. Marshall mix design results showed that the optimum bitumen content was 5.8%, at which the mix achieved maximum stability, proper density, and acceptable air voids. The developed mix satisfied the required MORTH specifications and demonstrated satisfactory engineering performance. The study concludes that RAP and RAS can be effectively used in hot mix asphalt to improve sustainability while maintaining adequate pavement performance
