Impact of the Economic Reform Programme on the Industrial and Trade Sectors in Ghana (1983-2001)

Abstract

In 1983, Ghana witnessed the implementation of the economic reform program in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which aimed to address the economic crisis that the country has been going through since the 1970s.
The impact of the economic crisis was very prominent in the industrial and trade sectors during the study period, so the government in Ghana tried to reform them by abolishing customs restrictions and increasing global integration, especially the trade of gold and cocoa. The government has followed suit, reducing government subsidies and reducing the labor force in some industrial and commercial sectors.
