Abstract

Recent developments in nanostructure science have provided fertile metaphors and organizational models for re conceptualising curriculum architectures in higher education. Within language and literary studies, traditional curriculum delivery frequently remains linear, hierarchical, and resistant to dynamic interconnection. This study interrogates how nanostructure inspired design principles—particularly self assembly, scalability, and adaptive coherence—can inform more efficient and cognitively attuned models of curriculum construction and pedagogy. Drawing on a mixed design of conceptual inquiry and classroom based experimentation, the research examined three tertiary English and comparative literature programmes implementing modular, fractal patterned learning units modelled on nanoscale structural behaviour. Data collection integrated design based research cycles, instructor narratives, and student cognitive mapping analytics.

Findings indicate that nanostructure aligned curricular models significantly improved learner adaptability, knowledge retention, and cross disciplinary synthesis, fostering relational rather than sequential comprehension of textual and linguistic concepts. The study advances a theoretical synthesis between nanosystemic organisation and pedagogical scalability, arguing that curriculum efficiency can emerge from distributed micro learning nodes analogous to nanoscale self organising lattices (Mitchell, 2024; Roco & Hersam, 2022). Practically, this approach promotes instructional elasticity and supports educators in designing multilingual and multimodal environments responsive to contextual variations. The paper contributes to emerging dialogues that blend educational theory with material and systems sciences, suggesting that nanostructural metaphors can recalibrate the epistemic foundations of curriculum studies. It concludes that adopting nanosystemic perspectives enables language and literary curricula to operate as adaptive, networked ecosystems capable of sustaining innovation within rapidly evolving educational landscapes..
