Designing Controlled Knowledge Delivery in Philology Education Using Technology-Enhanced Pedagogical Approaches
Main Article Content
Abstract
The increasing digitalization of higher education has redefined how knowledge is structured, mediated, and transmitted within philology, a field historically characterized by interpretive autonomy and scholarly discursivity. Yet this transformation has also exposed a pedagogical tension between intellectual openness and the need for controlled progression of disciplinary content. The present study addresses this tension by examining how technology-enhanced pedagogical approaches can be strategically designed to ensure controlled knowledge delivery—that is, the calibrated sequencing, monitoring, and adaptive release of linguistic and literary knowledge in digital philology education. Anchored in constructivist and cognitive-load paradigms (Sweller et al., 2019) and informed by sociocultural epistemologies of learning (Pinar, 2021), the research employs a qualitative–dominant mixed-methods design across three universities integrating adaptive learning management systems for philological instruction. Data were collected through document analysis, instructor interviews, and longitudinal platform analytics, followed by thematic synthesis and structural pattern modeling.
Findings reveal that technologically mediated control—if aesthetically and ethically calibrated—enhances students’ cognitive stability, promotes incremental mastery of complex linguistic structures, and sustains interpretive depth without reducing autonomy. Controlled delivery models, utilizing adaptive sequencing and multimodal annotation tools, increased retention and textual analysis proficiency while reducing cognitive diffusion caused by unstructured online learning. Theoretically, the study advances an epistemic model of controlled adaptivity, situating technology as a mediating instrument for balancing constraint and interpretive exploration in humanities education. Practically, the study provides a systematic framework for designing scalable, data-informed philology curricula that retain disciplinary authenticity amidst digital transformation. By demonstrating the viability of structured flexibility, the research contributes to reorienting technology-enhanced philological pedagogy toward an ethos of coherence, accountability, and intellectual depth (Barnett, 2022)..
