Abstract

The rapid development of digitally enhanced learning environments has significantly transformed academic writing practices and scholarly communication processes. This study investigates the evolving nature of writing for research publications in digitally mediated settings, with particular attention to the role of artificial intelligence tools and digital competence development. A bibliometric and conceptual analysis approach was employed to identify dominant thematic clusters and structural relationships within contemporary research literature. The findings reveal four key domains shaping modern academic writing: digitally enhanced learning environments, AI-supported writing technologies, digital competence and AI literacy, and scholarly communication productivity. The study proposes an integrative conceptual framework that conceptualizes research writing as a multi-layered socio-technical system involving digital infrastructure, AI-mediated processes, cognitive competencies, and scholarly outputs. Case-based insights derived from emerging research-support tools such as Consensus and SciSpace illustrate practical transformations in literature discovery, content synthesis, and manuscript preparation. The results highlight both the opportunities and risks associated with AI integration, emphasizing the importance of critical evaluation skills and ethical awareness. The study contributes to theoretical and practical understanding of digital scholarly communication and provides recommendations for enhancing research productivity in technologically advanced learning environments.
