Transforming Conductor Education through Digital and Virtual Environments: a Focus on Performance and Interpretation Development

Abstract

Modern professional conducting education needs to be modernized in response to technological challenges; however, the level of implementation of digital tools remains understudied, especially in the Ukrainian context. The purpose of the research is to analyze the use of digital and virtual environments in conducting and determine their impact on the development of performance and interpretation skills as a component of creative self-realization. The research combined a review of theoretical literature with a survey of students - conductors at music academies in Kyiv. Empirical data revealed a significant gap between students’ high interest in modern technologies and low levels of their practical application. Videos of professional conductors and mobile applications remain the most common, while access to virtual reality technologies is extremely limited. The effectiveness of video recording as a method of self-analysis for identifying technical shortcomings and developing reflective skills is confirmed. The need to create digital content in Ukrainian, adapted to the national repertoire, is emphasized. A model of integrating digital tools with traditional education is proposed, focused on the harmonious development of the conductor’s personality.
