Abstract

The purpose of inclusive education policies is to provide equal access to learning opportunities to students with different abilities, but there are still gaps in policy to health, and academic outcomes. The main issue that this research will deal with is the discrepancy between the policy framework and the real performance in enhancing the well-being and learning performance of students. The aim is to assess the effects of the policies that promote inclusive education on health indicators (mental well-being, attendance) and academic outcomes (achievement, engagement). This was done using a mixed-method approach, which combined both quantitative analysis of longitudinal schools data and qualitative interviews with stakeholders. Inclusive and non-inclusive school systems were used to carry out statistical methods such as regression model and comparative analysis. Results show that the schools with organized inclusive policies had an improvement in academic outcomes, student engagement, and absenteeism by 27.4, 32.1, and 21.6 percent respectively, as compared to the traditional systems. There was a positive psychosocial influence of inclusive environments with the improvement of mental health indicators by 18.9. Comparative outcomes indicate that inclusive schools achieve higher performance in comparison with non-inclusive peers in the form of 25-30% on average in the key measures. This study also includes the policy evaluation, educational planning and the integration of public health, providing information to policy makers and institutional leaders. The policies of inclusive education help to improve both health and learning outcomes considerably in case of effective implementation, but constant monitoring and educator training, as well as the allocation of resources, are still vital to the sustainable effectiveness.
